Howard Crane in 1921, The Emerald Theatre in Downtown Mt Clemens is no stranger to the residents of Macomb County when it comes to entertainment. After nearly 70 years of languishing as a theatre, movie house, and general gathering place, The Macomb Theatre (as it was known then) was transformed during the early 90’s into a nightclub by adding the current seating arrangements and the full service bars. But it wasn’t until the mid 90’s that the theatre began to host concerts, eventually changed owners, and re-emerged as The Emerald Theatre in late 2000. The Emerald’s current incarnation has been in place for 10 years, and to celebrate, they’re throwing the Emerald Theatre’s 10 Year Anniversary Gala this Saturday January 8th at this Historic Venue that has seen a number of major events come through it’s doors during this time. It was here that Eminem filmed a week long series of interviews with Pat O’Brien and Access Hollywood back in ’02, and it was here that Kid Rock held a week long rehearsal before kicking off his Rock & Roll Jesus Tour in ’07.  Mt. Clemens own Uncle Kracker played a string of sold out Thanksgiving Night concerts before handing the torch to another Mt Clemens based band, Critical Bill, who themselves have carried on the tradition of some of the most successful shows in town. According to owner Mike Mitchell, “we’re going all out for the night, bringing in some of the biggest names in Michigan Made Music”, which of course is Music To Our Ears!! In going all out, Mitchell has secured a number of big name Michigan Made acts to lead the charge through the night that will feature a bevy of special guests (rumor has it you won’t want to miss any of these) to reminisce on their times performing at the historic venue, as well as performances by Sponge, Paradime, Critical Bill, Black Irish, Pop Evil, Howling Diablos, and Taproot who will all perform a hit laden set that will be so unique that you may never see it again. Mitchell informs us that “between special guests who’ll share their own special memories, The Howling Diablos will be playing their own special blend of funky Detroit rock & roll as the acting house band, while each of the bands drop sets that will guarantee everyone will have their very own special memory of the Emerald to take home with them”. I know Dr2 is looking forward to this fascinating, if not unique, once in a life time Gala, 10 Years in the making! Tickets are $10, available at the door.
