You Won't Get This From Us!

It’s always interesting to read Music Reviews, hey that’s why we here at Dr2 do it. Not only is it interesting to investigate, listen, and write a CD or Live Show Review, we ENJOY it. Imagine that. Most of you already know that Dr2 is at the shows we write about, heck we probably bug the hell out of ya’all with questions. Imagine for a second that you read a review we wrote and you not remembering us being there. Could raise some questions right? And then there are all those CD’s that are sent to us by the dozen. Do you really think that we could possibly write a review on each and everyone of them? Well my friends, as we’ve stated to all who have sent us a CD, the answer is no we don’t. But we also tell everyone that does send us a CD that Dr2 can guarantee we will LISTEN to each and every CD that is sent to us. So it goes with out saying that if we write a review, then ALL of us here at Detroit Rock Review have actually listened to the ENTIRE disc. Not once, not twice, but as many times as it takes to fully understand the lyrics, music, motivation etc for each song on that disc. Heck, we’ve been told by many after one of our Dr2 Views that “man, you guys really do listen to the disc!” Yes we do, and we’re damn proud of it! So it comes with great pleasure to say that not everyone does, just take this recent AP story out of New York from none other than one of the largest rag mags out there today, MAXIM. Apparently they take their music a little to UN-seriously. Oh yeah, we did swipe the picture of Avril from their website, screw them, they probably don’t read the whole story anyway, besides, she’s hot. The following is the story as it appeared across the web earlier today-

I'm About To Have Another BLOWOUT! From The Hard Lessons

on .

The following Blurb is from one of Dr2's favorite home grown bands that have been tearing up the local & regional scene for a number of years now, The Hard Lessons! A dynamic trio that beckons your attention, Augie (vox, lead guitar) KoKo Louise (vox, keys) & The Anvil (drums) have been climbing the ever so diffucult ladder trying to find that plataeu that lies atop the world. Believe us folks, if you've never seen these guys live, then you need to keep an eye on Dr2 where we will surely be the first to let you know when they'll be back in town for what will be another blowout homecoming after they complete their current tour. In the mean time class, listen up as The Hard Lessons have put together an educational seminar of local music to be held in their honor during the upcoming Metro Times Blowout! Be sure to check out The Hard Lessons, you’ll find them in our Top Friends over on the Myspace page!

I’m about to have another BLOWOUT!

After 4 consecutive years of memorable Hamtramck Blowout performances, our tour schedule this year will prevent us rocking the festival. However, we are pleased to announce that we've been asked by the Metro Times to pick some sweet bands for a special showcase. Well, we decided to bring in some of our favorite bands from around the state. Check it out:

Bowling Awards

on .

Wow talk about speedy Gonzalez! After a rabid month of online voting which occurred last year over at the Riff2 site for their 1st annual Riff2 awards they FINALLY released the results? Wow the voting ended over 2 months ago, maybe longer, it’s been so long I cannot remember! Not sure who talleyed the “Online Votes”, but I do know it was computerized to some extent, I hope! Oh well, we’ll take it with a grain of salt and let you know that the results are in, not on the RIFF2 site but on the Detroit News Site….? WTF is up with that? Melody Licious (#79) has the results posted here on her new music blog, check it out.

If you don’t have any plans this Sunday, head on up to the Premier Entertainment Center for some good old fashion fundraiser bowling, hey Michigan is the bowling capital of the world you know! It’s for a great cause as Screamin Scott from Wrif has organized the 1st Annual Rock & Bowl event. Pitting local bands, bars, groupies, and seriously misguided web music junkies like ourselves against one another in an effort to raise money for Jacob McQuade, a young man who is currently receiving treatment for cancer, and also for the Angelo Ganos Foundation, the prominent local musician from Seduce, who recently unexpectedly passed. Not only will you see your favorite rockers bowling, which should be quite entertaining in and of itself,......read more

On The Horizon

Things will be heating up around Detroit with lots of action on the horizon including some great looking shows, festivals, and the Detroit Music Awards.  Thursday night is two fold as The Muggs will storm The Emerald Theater in The Clem along with Class Three Overbite & Bluesong. Should be a great show as The Muggs, who recently competed on Fox TV’s The Next Great American Band, always bring that greasy Detroit rock & roll! Also Thursday night just down the way, TnT’s presents week 4 of the $10,000 89X I’m With The Band version 2.0 contest with Tiny Lightning, Nine8Stall, Deadringer, Kardo, and Dharma Initiative will be battling it out for their shot at the $10K & recording time.....read more...

Randomness

on .

Boy it’s a busy time of year around Detroit, lot’s of good show’s going down lately, and a whole lot more on the horizon.  Spent last Friday over at Bullfrog Bar & Grille in Redford for the WRIF World Bar Tour with a lineup almost as long as the Harley Fest! Starting off around 6:30 and running till close, The Bullfrog packed them in on a night that featured a Matt Austin Band set unlike any Dr2 has seen from this trio, including a preview of a new track and an awesome Hendrix cover! Having the likes of Dismantle, No Justus, Severance, Soul Circus & Ballz Deluxe on the same bill gave it a festival like feel.
